On four years supporting the Autism Partnership Board’s inclusive practices, from Easy Read agendas to peer learning sessions on neuro-inclusive workplaces.
Over the four years I’ve been at Brighton & Hove City Council, the Autism Partnership Board has become one of my favourite meetings, in part because it is so accessible and inclusive:
– the agenda is always produced in Easy Read
– there’s always a 15-minute break halfway through
– there are many lived experience self-advocates involved
– these cards are used to support inclusive participation
– self-advocates are able to ask questions directly to senior council and NHS colleagues
It’s been an honour to be involved and support with equalities processes including joining the dots between the Board and the council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan.
I’ve also really enjoyed developing and delivering peer learning sessions on the social model of disability, workplace adjustments, neuro-inclusive workplaces and ‘spotlight’ sessions on autism and ADHD.
